Everyday people are faced with the opportunity to lend a hand everyday.
Some may refer to this as being a person, but I like to think of it as good
karma. I fully believe that each and every action or choice you make in life
will impact things that happen to you later on. For instance, if you decide to
just walk into a building without holding it open for the person behind you,
then I feel like maybe that day you will end up with gum on your shoe... or
something along those lines. This idea gives many people the incentive to help
the old woman with her groceries so that positive things will happen in their
life as well. Not only will helping someone with a small, mindless task help
someone/something, but also will make you feel good inside. I believe in karma
so much that I refuse to spit my gum out on the street! I wait until I reach a
garbage can to dispose of my gum because I am terrified that maybe I will
either step in someone else’s gum or a bird will poop on backpack, just because
I was too lazy to place my gum into a garbage can. These stupid, mindless tasks
add up. Helping a stranger with a door or putting garbage in its proper place
are easy things that make this world a better place. This relates to our class
in the obvious way of community service. Just like we have been helping our
service partners, we are putting this effort in to make the world a better
place. Just think! If everyone did his or her small, almost effortless part
that this life might not be so bad. Karma is what encourages me to do my part!

Digital Posters
So these digital posters that we have begun working on have been driving me nuts. I certainly am not a wizard on Photoshop and have no desire to be one, however I do like the idea of spreading the word about how others can join in on the community service fun! I think it is a great idea because many people do not see all the wonderful places who desperately need volunteers. I think that in the back of many college students mind they know that community service looks phenomenal on resumés and to future employers, so lets make it as easy as possible for students to lend a hand. The posters we are making could be used, if you so choose, to notify the students about what is happening. My poster however, is no where near skilled enough to be seen by other people, my poster might even drive people away from doing what my poster is saying! To finish, I think that these posters are a great idea to get the word out there. Our community, and surrounding communities, NEED volunteers! So like Ty Pendington, host from Extreme Home Makeovers, would say, "LET'S DO IT!"
